2013 Tour – Stage 14 – Break Succeeds

TrentinTour

Matteo Trentin won the sprint from the break as the peloton was in full relaxed mode after yesterday’s crazy day. The 16 riders in the break worked together effectively until they neared the finish and then it was one after another going for the solo win, with Julien Simon putting in the most promising looking dig before being caught in the final 1.5km. From there Trentin came from way back in the sprint to power to the win.

The peloton was so lax that they allowed Andrew Talansky into the break and did little to keep him in check. That means the American from Garmin has moved well back into reach of the top ten (sitting 12th) as he finished third and the peloton rolled in 7’17” behind. It’s not that Talansky is any threat to the overall, but usually teams will protect any top ten placings something fierce. I guess with Mont Ventoux looming tomorrow, the riders can’t be blamed for taking it easy today at that is a beast of a climb.
