Vuelta a España – Stage 6 – J-Rod scorches Froome and Contador

Joaquim Rodriguez has surged away from the group of four main favorites – Chris Froome, Alejandro Valverde and Chris Froome – and taken the win on the 6th stage of the Vuelta España. Katusha contorlled the race keeping the break within reach knowing that this finish was perfectly suited for the diminutive Rodriguez and had reeled in the last of the break riders – Thomas De Gendt with 6 km to go. From there it was Saxo Bank and Movistar trying to set something up for their leaders, but Sky made their way to the front and took control with 3km to go. The pace set by Sky was furious, in the same fashion as with Wiggins in the Tour, and no one could come around until Froome was left to his own devices. Then Rodriguez blasted away from everyone winning by a comfortable margin while Valverde lost 10 seconds and Contador lost 18.

Tomorrow, likely a day for the breakaway as guys have sufficiently lost time.
