Bradley Wiggins has, once again, decimated the competition in the Olympic Road Time Trial to cap off what most people thought would be impossible at the beginning of the season – winning the Tour and the Olympic Time Trial back-to-back. With the Gold he becomes the winningest athlete in Britsh Olympic history with 7 medals. Tony Martin (GER) finished second with a massive ride as well and Wiggins’ Sky teammate Chris Froome (GBR) took the bronze. Canada’s Ryder Hesjedal finished in 28th spot.
Did I forget to mention that we had a Marianne jersey on the cutting table when she won the road race? We probably should have finished it because she didn’t do as well in the TT although it isn’t generally seen as a strength of hers. The Women’s TT was won by Kirsten Armstrong (USA) with Silver going to Judith Arndt (GER) and Bronze to Olga Zabelinskaya (RUS) who comes away with bronze in both Women’s events. Canadian Clara Hughes was fifth.
That’s it for Olympic Road Cycling. Track cycling starts tomorrow.
