Tour de France – Stage 15 – Fedrigo nails the sprint.

Pierrick Fedrigo (FDJ) has won the stage before the rest day with the fast start and a slow finish. Today’s stage was go from the gun with and incredible speed, flat out from the start with a first hour at 46kmph avg as the riders were strung out across the road. The following hour was just as tough with the average speed only dipping to 43.5kmph. But when they break got away, they had it and it was the group of Pierrick Fedrigo, Christian Vandevelde, Thomas Voeckler, Nikki Sorenson, Dries Devenyns and Samuel Dumolin. Once the break had some time, Sky turned it off completely and they rolled along allowing the break over 11 minutes advantage.

Into the final km, Vandevelde and Ferigo got away alone and from there is was fairly routine as Vandevelde has absolutely no sprint and he knows it, and Fedrigo rode off the front quite easily for the win.

Tomorrow is the rest day before the Queen stage on Wednesday with the Col d’Aubisque, Col du Tourmalet, Col D’Aspin and Col de Perysourde. The highest point of the race comes on this stage and it’s over 200km of racing. It’s a killer stage which will be active in reshaping the top ten.
