Starting in Liege, and ending 21 stages later on the Champs-Elysees, the Tour looks to feature some very tough climbing, with more categorized climbs than in 2011 (25 vs 23) and much more time trial distance than in 2011 (96km vs 41km). At first glance the climbs look less tough than last year, but there are some tough ones, short, Marie-Blanque-esque climbs, like the stage 7 Planche de Belle Filles.

Bradley Wiggins comes in as the odds on favorite, with Cadel Evans trying to make it two in a row in a your where podium regulars Alberto Contador and Andy Schleck are both out of the race. Strong challenges look to come from Giro winner Ryder Hesjedal as well as Robert Gesink, Alejandro Valverde, Samuel Sanchez, Jurgen Van Den Broeck, Frank Schleck, Levi Leipheimer, Denis Menchov and many others.
