Tour de Suisse – Stage 5 – Break succeeds, Sagan doesn’t win!

In a stage that seemed earmarked for another sprint victory by Peter Sagan, the responsibility to control the peloton was left to Movistar, who weren’t really all that interested in doing anything other than preserving the yellow jersey for Rui Costa. What that meant was that a seven man break that attacked at kilometer 17, was able to build up a lead of over 10 minutes and hold on to the line. Katusha’s Vladimir Isaychev bagged his first professional win of his career narrowly edging out Euskaltel’s Ruben Perez.

The biggest news of the day, unfortunately taking the spotlight off Isaychev is that Andy Schleck will not ride the Tour de France due to a hairline fracture in his tailbone/vertabrae he sustained when he crashed in the time trial of the Dauphine. More to come!
