The third stage finished with a crash that took down both the pink jersey and the points jersey, and Matthew Goss, who was already out in front just held to the line for the win. Roberto Ferrari seemed to cut right in the last few hundred meters taking out Mark Cavendish in the sprint. The crash alos left Taylor Phinney on the tarmac for a few minutes before being ushered into an ambulance with a reported ankle problem. Because the crash happened within the final 3km Phinney doesn’t need to actually cross the finish line and is instead given last place on the stage and will retain the pink jersey if he can continue.
