Tuft and Greenegde win @ T-A, Meersman wins @ P-N

The Tirreno-Adriatico 5 stage race started today with the TTT and Greenedge has set a blistering time today with “from-the-woods” strong man Svein Tuft helping the team crush Radioshack and Garmin by 17 seconds. The Tirreno-Ariatico race goes across the northern portion of the Italian penninsula from the Tirrenian sea to the Adriatican. This is the main tune-up race for the Giro D’Italia and the Milan-San Remo classic.

An uphill finish which seemed suited to Valverde but there was a round-about within the final run-in that seemed to through the Spaniard losing him about 12 places. Gianni Meersman, who finished third yesterday, took advantage and timed the sprint perfectly winning today. Not much change in the overall except that Valverde loses a place in the stages because Westra was sharp and grabbed third and the bonus seconds.
