La Vuelta – Stage 21 – Juan Jose Cobo wins the 2011 Vuelta

We’ve been away twice over the span of the 2011 Vuelta España, which has been unfortunate only in terms of seeing the final Grand Tour in a year of some of the best racing I can recall in years. Surprised to see on our return that today, Juan Jose Cobo (Geox) has won the 2011 edition of the biggest race in Spain. Equally surprising was the result of Chris Froome, the Kenyan born British citizen racing for Team Sky who came to the Vuelta in such fine form that he overtook Bradley Wiggins in the latter’s bid to win his first Grand Tour. 13 seconds is one of the narrowist margins of victory in Grand Tour history and a very surprising podium missing Nibali, Anton and Rodriguez has concluded a year of shocking Grand Tour Racing.

Peter Sagan won the race on the day in the final sprint taking three stages in the race. Along with more than just his no-handed wheelie on Angliru, this kid has been fun to watch grow and mature.
