La Vuelta – Stage 13 – Albasini from the break

Today’s story was the breakaway that with 19 men strong looked prime to hold until the finish, which it did, with Michael Albasini winning the sprint for HTC. In the break were GC contenders Daniel Moreno, Chris-Anker Sorenson, Nicolas Roche, Mikel Nieve and Carlos Sastre. They, and 13 other men, made up 1:33 on the Bradley Wiggins group, with the big winner on the day being Daniel Moreno who won the intermediate sprint and took third in the final sprint to gain a total of 1:47 on the day moving him into 9th.

The weekend is all mountains on the menu, with Angliru on Sunday being the main course. By Monday the entire GC should be revamped, but we’ll miss it because we’re heading out tomorrow for a week of vacation.
