La Vuelta – Stage 12 – Sagan Doubles

Today was one of the final chances for the sprinters in this year’s Vuelta as the peloton rolled through Galicia near the Atlantic coast of Spain. The rolling stage with a slight rise 300m out and then a flat finish played out as expected with the big sprinters going for the glory. Fabian Cancellara lead Daniele Bennati into the finish nicely, but pulled off perhaps a little early. Peter Sagan came around Bennati with John Degenkolb just a bike length behind and it was a straight drag race between the two with Sagan holding on for the win. Interestingly, Fredrick Kessiakoff was on the ball in the final sprint and held with the big guns to take 5 seconds over his rivals and move into third in the overall classification.
