La Vuelta – Stage 11 – Mountain Goat Moncoutie

A brutally difficult day following the rest day and David Moncoutie took advantage knowing the peloton would be content to try to keep things tame until the final climb. Moncoutie got into a break with 19 other riders and stormed away, attacking numerous times to victory.

The peloton was content to keep their powder dry until the final climb when Sky lead the chase to preserve the Red Jersey. Chris Froome, still working for Bradley Wiggins was left to do the chasing himself as the other Sky riders were out the back. Joaquim Rodriguez (+3’01” st) launched a viscous looking attack within the last 2km, but Sky held the Red jersey although it changed hands from, Froome to Wiggins (+3’08” st), as Jacob Fuglsang (+3’35”) and Chris Froome (+3’35”) suffered dearly for their efforts.
