Tour de France – Stage 6 – All the way, Norway

Edvald Boasson Hagen won the uphill sprint today with Thor Hushovd finishing third and preserving the yellow jersey. Headlines around Norway will be in super bold print today. Spare no ink. Sincere congrats do go to Team Garmin who have looked calm and cool keeping Hushovd in a good place to defend the jersey and Hushovd has performed marvelously staying with the lighter, speedier climbers through all these uphill finishes. He does onlt have a one second lead on Evans, for example. As well, to Boasson Hagen who takes his first Tour de France win on the longest stage of the race. I seem to remember him winning the longest stage of the Giro into Chiavenna in the rain in 2009.

The stage was much more tranquil than yesterday, although the crash of the day went to a very unlucky Levi Leipheimer who let his wheel drift on the tarmac with 4km to go. That tiny mistake cost him 1’05” toward the overall classification. Unfortunate considering his great placing through all the previous stages, and that Brajkovic had to retire due to his crash. Not much luck going around Radioshack these days. Speaking of bad luck, Contador had more problems today, having to change his bike twice and battle back on to the peloton, but he managed to finish with the 60-person lead group and even had a dig on the final climb.
