Giro D’Italia – Stage 13 – Rujano

Jose Rujano (Androni) stuck with Contador again, and by honour of the Maglia Rosa wearer, Contador moved aside within the last 50km and gave Rujano the win. John Gadret, who is showing he is having a Giro which is greater by each day, came in third.

The peloton was rather docile up the finale climb and surprisingly there were few counter attacks to the surge of Rujano and Contador. Nibali and Scarponi seemed content today to just ride in the grupetto and not launch anything violent against one another or their other rivals. Of the grupetto, John Gadret and Igor Anton were arguably the most active and successful combined, and Joaquim Rodriguez had a few digs but perhaps only ended up costing him 16 additional seconds on his grupetto rivals. Noteably absent from the main grupetto were Kanstatsin Sivtsov (+2:42), Christophe Le Mevel (+3:49) and Carlos Sastre (+7:26!) on the stage.
