Vuelta a España – Stage 9

David Lopez (Caisse D’Epargne) won the 9th stage of the Vuelta España with a late solo breakaway into Alcoy. Lopez, who was riding toward victory with yesterday’s winner David Moncoutie was joined by five other riders before breaking free from the lead group. For Lopez it is his first victory in a grand tour. More than 6 minutes late, the peloton came to the line with Joaquin Rodriguez sprinting for the red leaders jersey, but he couldn’t shake Igor Anton from his wheel. Little change in the overall with Bruseghin, Menchov, Danielson and Arroyo losing about 10 seconds each but Jean Christophe Peraud making a big jump up to 5th.
