Critérium du Dauphiné Stage 6 and Tour de Suisse prologue.

Alberto Contador won on Alpe d’Huez today and Fabian Cancellara won the prologue TT in the Tour de Suisse. It’s nice when the unexpected happens isn’t it? For Contador it was a dominant display of climbing and attacking as he repeatedly tried to loosen the grip on the GC jersey held by Brajkovik. Janez did an equally impressive job of hanging on and looks in superb form for the TDF. Too bad he’ll be relegated to being a domestique. Oh sigh, … that’s right, this was a day of the unexpected.

While in Switzerland, without motor assist, Fabian Cancellara stormed the course, even in wet conditions and proved that motors are for ninnies and rumors are short-lived. You really think this guy isn’t that fast? Well, I do. Oh, and Brajkovic’s teammate…err, I mean leader: 44th.

  1. To be fair to Armstrong (and other top GC riders like the brothers Schleck), he was being cautious on the slippery descent. Not much point going for a few extra seconds here and crashing out of the Tour!

I did love this quote from Armstrong after the stage, though. “(Cancellara has) two motors on his bike, the one in his left leg and the one in his right leg.”

    1. You’re certainly correct. My comment was less a slight on the GC contenders in the prologue TT as it was the rumour of leaving Brajkovic out of the tour. I believe he has earned the place to be a 1A for Radioshack in the TDF, but I can see how other would disagree.
