Giro D’Italia – 2010 Champion Ivan Basso

Ivan Basso has won the 2010 Giro D’Italia over second place David Arroyo Duran and teammate and compatriot Vincenzo Nibali. Basso, who has returned to the top step on the Giro podium four years after his 2006 win, stormed his way to victory with his uniform tempo, high cadence, high pace climbing.

David Arroyo Duran was a surprise second place finisher and the spaniard who wore the Maglia Rosa for three days rode a smart defensive race and very enarly stole the overall out from under the feet of the favorites. For Nibali, third place is a significant achievement for a rider who until a week before the race was scheduled to be training for the Tour de France.

Gustav Erik Larsson won the final TT stage by a slim margin beating the Italian TT champion Marco Pinotti by only 2 seconds.
