Giro D’Italia – Stage 17

Damien Monier (Cofidis) has won the 173km 17th stage from Brunico to Peio Terme with a successful breakaway to claim his first professional win of his career. Although there was a strong surge in the last three kilometers by Liquigas to break up the group, it appeared that there was not change in the GC standings as everyone hung on with tooth and nails to Scarponi, Basso and Nibali as they powered to the line.
