Giro D’Italia – Stage 4 TTT

Liquigas has dropped the hammer and won the Team Time Trial vaulting Vincenzo Nibali into the Maglia Rosa. He is heavily supported with Basso jumping into 2nd position in the GC standings.

Winners today: Obviously Liquigas, they couldn't have asked for more. Other than Liquigas, Katusha put in a strong performance for Karpets, who now sits 7th in the GC and Cervelo really made up for earlier flaws with a very respectable 6th which seriously limited losses for Sastre.

1. Liquigas____36:37 (Nibali, Basso)
2. Team Sky_+ 0:13 (Wiggins)
3. Columbia__+ 0:21 (Pinotti)
4. Katusha___+ 0:27 (Karpets)
5. Astana____+ 0:38 (Vinokourov)
6. Cervelo____+0:38 (Sastre)
7. Lotto______+0:46
8. Garmin_____+0:49 (Millar)
9. Saxo Bank__+0:50 (Porte)
10. Milram_____+0:57 (Gerdemann)
11. Rabobank__+1:04
12. BMC_______+1:21 (Evans)
13. Lampre_____+1:43 (Cunego, Simoni)

Losers today: Astana, although they had a good finishing time (5th) they lost the Maglia Rosa, lost an opportunity to put time into Sastre and lost a crucial 5th teammate in the last km of the time trial, hurting their final time. Vino didn’t look so happy. BMC, Cadel when will you have a team that can support you? Evans finishes 1:21 back and is going to have to do a whole bunch of attacking in the mountains now. He’s lost 2:06 on Basso in two days. Not Good. Acqua Sapone and ASA, as it was good to see Scarponi and Garzelli up there for a while, but losing 2:22 and 2:30 respectively pretty much sends there GC ambitions packing.
