Tour of Romandie – Prologue

Today’s 4.3km prologue at the Tour of Romandie officially said goodbye to the Classics portion of the calendar and hello to the Grand Tour stretch. The Romandie is the final warm-up before the Giro D’Italia which starts in 12 days on the 9th of May.

The Tour of Romandie is a 6 stage, 646km race in the French region (Romandie) of Switzerland. Today’s prologue was a short, but technical one and the top time was held by Marco Pinotti for more than half the day as he started 74th of 159, and it would eventually prove to stick as none of the favorites could dislodge him from the podium. Peter Sagan finished second to Pinotti, with Jeremy Roy third. Roman Kreuziger was the top ranked overall GC contender in 8th, with Alejandro Valverde 13th, Denis Menchov 24th, Philippe Gilbert 25th and Ivan Basso 77th.
