Paul Voss has turned some heads by turning those massive gears quicker than anyone else during the TT today at the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya. The week-long race takes place in Catalunya in eastern Spain, home of Barcelona, as it has since 1911, being the third oldest stage race still run today. Only the Tour de France and Giro D’Italia have longer histories than the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya.
The event kicked of with a very short 3.6km time trial which not surprisingly was handled with ease by the specialists. However, it was Paul Voss who handed Team Milram the win beating Levi Leipheimer and his teammate Andreas kloden by one and two seconds respectively.
Riders to watch during the Volta are Levi Leipheimer, Andres Kloden, Carlos Sastre, Denis Menchov, Andy and Frank Schleck, Roman Kreuziger, Ivan Basso, Mark Cavendish and Luis Leon Sanchez. Bradley Wiggins had planned to attend but dropped out due to a Stomach illness. Thor Hushovd opted out for this year.
