Xavier Tondo scored the win for the Cervelo Test-team in the last meters of the 6th stage of the Paris-Nice. Tondo escaped on a late break and managed to hold on as a huge surge was coming from an Alejandro Valverde lead peleton. Valverde, in search of as many bonus seconds as possible scored another 6 seconds for the second place finish edging ever-closer to Contador, who hold a slim 14 second lead heading into tomorrow’s final stage.

“It’s incredible for me to win,” Tondo said as he headed toward the podium. “It was a difficult stage today, it was fast all day. Yesterday I made a big mistake – I didn’t follow the change in rhythm on the climb and was at the back of a group and lost two and a half minutes. But that gave me more opportunity to go with the breakaway today.”
