Paris – Nice – Stage 3

The young Slovakian rider Peter Sagan pulls out the surprising win on the uphill finish of the third stage of the Paris – Nice and Jens Voigt moves into yellow with the overall lead. The stage was shortened due to overnight snow by some 63km, so the third stage was not as decisive as some originally thought, but it did however provide a big shake-up.

Lars Boom was dethroned for the top of the GC standings as Jens Voigt assumed the position for now. The sprint finish was unsettled and tentative as the peleton looked as if it would merge back together, but the lead group of Sagan, Rodríguez, Roche, Voigt, Martin and Contador managed to preserve the lead they had built with an explosive attack on the final climb to put 4-6 second gains into the main bunch.
