Tour of Qatar – Final Day

Francesco Chicchi won his second stage with a little cunning as he took the longest, but least windy, route to the line. Chicchi blasted down the left side of the road while all the other sprinters went center and right and it made all the difference as he stormed the line with more speed than the other sprinters to claim victory. Walter Mol, meanwhile stayed out of trouble and secured the yellow jersey to win the overall classification over the Belgians Steurs and Boonen.

“Team Sky was on the front down the back straight doing 60kpm, but after the last roundabout at the bottom of the circuit, we got back to near the front. I stayed on the left because it was sheltered from the wind. I took a risk by doing that but everyone else went to the right to take the shortest line. I took the long way round and got it. I hit 74kpm, that’s how fast the sprint was.” said Chicchi

Heinrich Haussler (Cervelo Test Team) won the silver points jersey, Roger Kluge (Milram) won the blue jersey for best young rider and the Cervelo Test Team took home the team prize.
