Moser wins big for Italy at Strade Bianche

Moreno Moser, nephew of the Italian great Francesco Moser, scored Italy’s first win in their “other” classic. Strade Bianche has only been around in this form for 7 years but it’s already an early season highlight. Until today, no Italian had won the race and with Peter Sagan looking like the guy to beat, Moreno Moser (no slouch himself at just 22) exploited the strength of the Cannondale team to attack, bridge and ride away on the final climb in Sienna to the win. Sagan? He finished second after spending the day chasing down Fabian Cancellara and keeping Moser’s lead somewhat protected. Rinaldo Nocentini rounded up the podium with defending champ Fabian Cancellara finishing fourth.
